Bio
MY NAME IS KOKO ROX. I’M A SINGER SONGWRITER. I WOULD PAY OTHER PEOPLE TO SING FOR ME BUT MY SONGS NEVER CAME BACK THE WAY I WANTED THEM. SO, I STARTED SINGING AND YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY – THE MORE YOU DO SOMETHING THE BETTER YOU GET. I STARTED WRITING WHEN I WAS 12 YEARS OF AGE. I HAD DISCOVERED HALL AND OATES AND WOULD MEMORIZE THEIR LYRICS AND SING ALONG. I WOULD TORTURE MY BROTHER, FRANKIE, WITH MY SONGS. I WOULD DO A FAST VERSION THAN A SLOW VERSION. HE WENT ON TO BE A LEAD SINGER OF A FEW FUNK ROCK BANDS AND ENCOURAGED ME TO WRITE FOR THEM. I SUBMITTED MANY BUT ONLY ONE MADE THE CUT. I DID IT THOUGH. MANY YEARS LATER, I AM STILL WRITING AND DREAM OF HAVING SUCCESS EITHER ON MY OWN OR WRITING A HIT SONG FOR AN ESTABLISHED ARTIST. I WRITE R&B, HIP HOP, ROCK, POP, SPIRITUAL, AND I CAN RAP. I LOVE MUSIC!!!!
Marla Taormina,
What Musical Genre Do You Feel Best Describes Your Music And How Would You Describe Your Sound?
RnB My Sound is Soulful and connects with your Mind and your Heart – there is a lesson to be learned with the lyrics in the song
How Did You Get Your Name? Is There A Story?
My Dad’s side of the family are Italian and Sicilian. My Dad and his Dad and his Uncle Sammy were also Golden Glove Boxers. All were champs in their weight classes. They all at one time had a pro fight or two. My Grandpa even became a trainer in our city and was very popular in his senior years. My Dad even started judging fights and I would go with him. The KO is for Knockout. I repeated it twice because my Dad and Grandpa loved Rocky Marciano – I even had a framed picture of Rocky in my home, like he was a family member. I saw a picture of Rocky online holding up two license plates that read KO KO. One for the front and one for the back. I also at the time, was married to a man and his first two letters in his last name I took on were KO. Also, I’m a Gemini and I liked the repeat. The ROX part is all about ROCK-n-ROLL.
What Are or Have Been Your Musical Influences?
Hall and Oates inspired me to start writing when I was 12 years old. Their tunes were so catchy and easy to sing along too. I was a member of their fan club and so there so many times in concert – I lost count.
What Are You Working On Now? Any Future Collaborations We Can Look Forward To?
I’m working on a song about how to deal with a Bad Boy/Hot Guy with lots of women interested in him because he is so good looking. I get advice from my girlfriends, my Mother, and my siblings. I collaborated with a friend of mine named East Side. We sat at his studio and came up with the music together.
What Is Your Ultimate Goal In The Music Industry? What Is Your Plan Of Action?
I would love to have a hit song and be noticed for my great writing and become a professional Song Writer. I write a song every week and post it on my ReverbNation Artist page.
What Is Your Favorite Track To Perform Live and Why?
I never performed live but I dream of doing Eminence Front Reinvention I did with my Baby Bro, Frankie. He believed in me and invited me to do a rap with him in 2013. I seen him perform many times in his bands and he is so confident and he believes in me.
What Has Been The Biggest Challenge In Your Career Thus Far?
Being ignored by my parents and my two sisters and extended family members. My Mom even said to me, let your cousin Troy be the Rock Star in the family. Just recently my song Bad Boyfriend was played on an online radio station and my Dad and Mom heard it and my Dad told me I could sing. Mom taped it. I think they didn’t think my talent was legit until they heard me on a site that played good music.
What’s Your Typical Songwriting Process?
Usually I just sit down and ask myself what am I interested in at this point in time. I start with the chorus and build around it. If I think I am having a writer’s block I listen to beats and get inspired by the music and let the music guide me to the words that fit easily.
How Has Social Media Influenced Your Career As An Artist?
Social Media gives me a presence. I have my birth name and then my Artist name, KOKO ROX. On social media I can accounts for myself and then for my creative self.
What Are Some Tracks and Artists Currently On Your Playlist?
I love Peaches by Justin Bieber. I am crazy about UP by Cardi B. I learned the TikTok Dance – it’s so fun. I always got Prince songs on.

I was an Executive Assistant at a Utility Company.
Any Advice For Young People (Men or Women) That Want To Succeed In The Music World?
If you believe in yourself as an artist – keep writing and singing and playing your songs. If I never get on the Billboard Chart that won’t take the fact away – that I am a Singer Songwriter. Because I am. Brand yourself and do it.
What Would You Change In The Music Industry If You Were A Top Music Executive?
Put less focus on Looks and Sexuality and focus on the music and the talent. As a woman, it gets tiring that the ladies have to show their bodies to become successful. Music should be focused on listening instead of eye candy.
How Do You Feel About Originality?
I think you can do a cover song and still be original. I do love creating my own lyrics and making my words come together from a poem to a song.
Is There Anything Else We Should Know About You Or That You Would Like to Add?
I have learned to stop focusing on the many years I have been doing this and enjoy what I am doing. Like the Rolling Stones sang – Time Is On My Side. YES IT IS!!!!
