Gregor Hartmann,

What Musical Genre Do You Feel Best Describes Your Music And How Would You Describe Your Sound?
Since my early youth it ever was the blues which had a deep impact to me, than hardrock, funk, jazz. I´m also prone to Synthesizer sounds, especially when they are sequenzed. But primarily it´s about the lyrics, because they are first before it comes to the music.

How Did You Get Your Name? Is There A Story?
Jan Duda is a Polish Name. Many Polish people are working here in Austria, making the bad jobs. I also like the idea of an anagram like “Dan Juda”. Maybe it will be the next title of a further album – who knows.

What Are or Have Been Your Musical Influences?
There´s a wide range of music I´m interested in: Robert Johnson, Jeff Beck, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchel, Pat Metheny, Weather Report, Jordi Savall, Avi Avital, and so on … These influences are trickeld in my brain where they were merged. But as you can see, first of all I like guitar music. And good lyrics.

What Are You Working On Now? Any Future Collaborations We Can Look Forward To?
These days I am working on different tracks which are rather pop songs. But as mentioned above, the lyrics are most important to me. I always try to tell a story which is different from the kind of stuff other musicians choose. I try not to teach people and to express something of their life they rahther feel than they could express in the way I attempt to write.

What Is Your Ultimate Goal In The Music Industry? What Is Your Plan Of Action?
Getting heard. Playin´ live. To be part of my listeners.

What Is Your Favorite Track To Perform Live and Why?
“Truth is Big and Shy” because it tells the story how we were guided, how some of us are connected and how we were betrayed. Also “Thats What it Means”. When it comes to changes like a war or the whole society in itself, it shows how thoughtful people may privately feel, what it does to men and relationships.

What Has Been The Biggest Challenge In Your Career Thus Far?
To be alive. To rise children. To be a good husband and father. To learn the meaning of the right hand for playin´guitar. To be a nice guy. To be a team player.

What’s Your Typical Songwriting Process?
First there are the lyrics, the lyrics and the lyrics. Then I have to decide if it would be a rock/blues song ore it should go in a different direction like folk or pop. If I use an acoustic or an electric guitar. Then it comes to the rhythm section and the sound for the arrangement has to be chosen. Last the vocals. The song is fully produced when it comes to the vocals.

How Has Social Media Influenced Your Career As An Artist?
I´m very impressed by the technics of a lot of musicians on youtube and insta. Some of them sound perfect. But sometimes there is little new.

What Are Some Tracks and Artists Currently On Your Playlist?
“Wildfire” by Jordan Rakei, “Neon” by John Mayer, all of Joe Bonamassa

What Did You Do Before You Started Making Music?
Correcting documents of lawyers for an agent in German language.

Any Advice For Young People (Men or Women) That Want To Succeed In The Music World?
Never give up! Try it again! Believe in yourselve!

What Would You Change In The Music Industry If You Were A Top Music Executive?
I´m not a kind of manager to give good advice in this issue. Surly there were better times in music industry but I think nobody could turn them back.

How Do You Feel About Originality?
I think it´s crucial for any success as an artist. But it´s also a kind of an illusion, because we all are influenced by so many people. Culture generally is build on the experiences of apted women and men we never will know. But sometimes we can deliver another brick for the whole building.

Is There Anything Else We Should Know About You Or That You Would Like to Add?
All you need is love!
