Douglas Nicodemus Sanders,

What Musical Genre Do You Feel Best Describes Your Music And How Would You Describe Your Sound?
Always thought provoking when asked to categorize Nicodemian’s music to any specific genre. Musical and creative expression is so fluid just as our thoughts and emotions. Perhaps there should be a new genre of music to describe Nicodemian: Extemporaneous 🙂

How Did You Get Your Name? Is There A Story?
Interesting story related to the name. Was exposed to the name “Nicodemus” as a small child. There was a movie entitled “Willard”, directed by Glen Morgan, which came out in 1971. The movie was based on a young man with an unusual connection to rats. One of which was named Nicodemus. Over time learned about Nicodemus who was a Pharisee in the bible. As thoughts evolved, with more focus on philosophy, also learned about Nicomachean Ethics defined by Aristotle. Eventually changed my name to “Nicodemus” based on a study of numerology and the impact the vibrations of word have on reality. That is how the name “Nicodemian” was born. Aside from all of that, it is cool. 🙂

What Are or Have Been Your Musical Influences?
Have always been inspired by the dynamism and vivid musical imagery portrayed by Trent Reznor and the formidable vocal prowess of Chris Cornel, along with his ability to weave his emotions and perspectives into beautiful songs.

There are so many fantastic artists in the world. Love every Genre. Have always found inspiration from so many. Eminem is fantastic as is Ice Cube and Dr. Dre! Always loved Tool, Iron Maiden, Marilyn Manson, Queensryche, Led Zeppelin, U2, The Who, CSN, Eagles, and Metallica. Lately have been really digging Taylor swift, Selena Gomez, Zac Brown Band, Chris Stapleton, and so much more. Too many influences to list. Love creativity and truly respect all musicians!

What Are You Working On Now? Any Future Collaborations We Can Look Forward To?
Have been working on an upcoming musical compilation entitled, ‘Floundering Personas’ slated to drop in 2023. Lot’s of interesting ideas. Lately been working on some songs collaboratively with Dan Konopka, from the grammy award winning band OK Go. Dan has been adding some cool drum tracks to the Nicodemian songs.

What Is Your Ultimate Goal In The Music Industry? What Is Your Plan Of Action?
The “Nicodemian” dream wants to travel extensively, transcend the boundaries of existence, push the limits, and experience the joy of the human experience. More than anything, would love to be a positive influence on the world, wherever possible, and deliver art that is truly transcendental and touching.

What Is Your Favorite Track To Perform Live and Why?
Truly enjoy playing the song “Sing for the Love”.

“Sing for the Love” is fun to play and reflects one of the primary beliefs we have. Love is all that matters!

What Has Been The Biggest Challenge In Your Career Thus Far?
The most valuable resource we have is time. Often finding the time to spend with those we love and everything we love to do is very challenging. Strange how the time just slips by.

What’s Your Typical Songwriting Process?
Always find that some of the best ideas come out of nowhere like a lightening bolt. If not captured in the moment, the ideas vanish as quickly as they come. Once the idea is captured and recorded, in whatever medium or format, the real work begins. Just like the old adage, creativity is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration.

How Has Social Media Influenced Your Career As An Artist?
Social media has a significant level of influence and profound impact. It is amazing the opportunities provided for artists today. Many avenues to get original music out there for all to hear, across all of the various platforms. On the flip side, the days of selling records and songs seems to be a bit fleeting. Musicians and artists have always been challenged when trying to make a living doing what they love.

Any Advice For Young People (Men or Women) That Want To Succeed In The Music World?
Believe in yourself no matter what… Music is magical… The river of melodies run deep

We create our own reality based on our beliefs. No exceptions

Often musicians express that they are creating music for the love and not the money. I too held that belief for many years. Be careful with beliefs like that because there are many that will exploit idealism.

Perhaps it is better to consider creating music for that love and the money. Fodder for thought. 🙂

What Would You Change In The Music Industry If You Were A Top Music Executive?
Would work to cultivate creativity, encourage those that inspire, and ensure the artists are properly compensated. Always amazes me how often musical artists and dreamers are exploited for doing what they love. The music industry should be an avenue to cultivate and reward those that dedicate themselves to being novel, creative, and avant-garde. Instead the structure has always been for executives to profit off somebody’s dreams. No other industry operates this way.

How Do You Feel About Originality?
Originality and creativity is beautiful and transformative. I believe we should encourage creativity and provide a platform for people to showcase their talent. This may help to inspire people to be more creative and to value the importance of originality.

Is There Anything Else We Should Know About You Or That You Would Like to Add?
I am that I am… Therefore I am.

Love is all that matters.
