Victoria Landrum,

What Musical Genre Do You Feel Best Describes Your Music And How Would You Describe Your Sound?

I would describe my music as conventional because I mixed in different genres. I’m a hip-hop/rap artist but I also do country, r&b, and indie-type style music. I like to go with the beat so whatever the beat is then that’s what genre I choose to record and write my music in. I just love the creative process. It comes naturally to me!

How Did You Get Your Name? Is There A Story?

Well, I first started as Vicky B. It was a short version of my name I remember Lil’Kim calling her Queen B in a rap song so that’s where the B comes from then later on I changed my name. I changed it to Queen V because when I was doing a lot of relationship advice people would call me Queen so I just use that as my name and put the first letter of my name with it. I changed it because of a rock star who had trademarked the name Queen V. So then I decided to just put Vicky Lan because it’s my first and last name shortened and it just felt like a good fit for me. I stuck with it.

What Are or Have Been Your Musical Influences?

I got a lot of musical influences. Janet is my top cause she is my favorite singer! But I also take inspiration from Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Sade, and Toni because they sing about love and have big hearts. Then I also take inspiration from Beyonce, Erykah Badu, India Arie, Jill Scott, Common, Tupac, Aaliyah, and Lauryn Hill to name a few because of their versatility, talent, and performance ability with their beautiful music. So much more music has just been influential in my life and also just listening to all the amazing songs my mom used to play in the house every day when I was a kid gave me a great ear for good music.

What Are You Working On Now? Any Future Collaborations We Can Look Forward To?

I’m always working on music every day. I just released 8 singles, 5 albums, and 1 EP which will be available this month and next month. I would love to do some collaborations with other artists when the time is right.

What Is Your Ultimate Goal In The Music Industry? What Is Your Plan Of Action?

To be a star, to build generational wealth, and to hopefully own a record label myself one day. My plan of action is simple to do whatever I have to do to make it to the top.

What Is Your Favorite Track To Perform Live and Why?

Since the song “Stay With Me” is such a crowd-pleaser one would be it!

What Has Been The Biggest Challenge In Your Career Thus Far?

Just building from the bottom and taking it step by step has been a challenge but I think sometimes you have to go through challenges to understand yourself to be able to push yourself higher than you can ever imagine so that’s what I did and will continue to do the sky has no limits in my mind.

What’s Your Typical Songwriting Process?

The majority of the time I just listen to the beat as I record and just make up a song as I go. Though I also write songs without anything too but it’s more creative for me to do it with the beat or instrumental. I always express myself through my heart, mind, and soul to give the best outcome of my music.

How Has Social Media Influenced Your Career As An Artist?

Influence me? I guess just wanting to pay it forward got me back to wanting to do my music plus having a supportive girlfriend she believed in me that helped too. At one time I had to stop doing music but she encouraged me to keep going so I did it. Being on social media and seeing others thrive on TikTok and YouTube just was extra motivation.

What Are Some Tracks and Artists Currently On Your Playlist?

I have too many artists on my playlist. I love Sade’s “By Your Side” song and Musiq Soulchild’s “Love”. I love love music and good old-school soul and R&B music. However, I do have some new-generation artists too on my playlist and timeless artists that continue making music throughout each generation. My favs are Beyoncé, Kehlani, H.E.R, Ella Mai, and Usher I listen to all their songs no track goes without me hearing it.

What Did You Do Before You Started Making Music?

Before I started? I have been making music since I was 10! I started posting it on the internet In 2012! I started taking it more seriously last year and this year! I’ve always done music just more ambitious about it! Now what careers have I had in life? I was in marketing, tax professional, life insurance agent, revenue auditor, federal worker, deputy, and paralegal so I’ve dabbled in everything!

Any Advice For Young People (Men or Women) That Want To Succeed In The Music World?

To know you can do anything if you put your mind to it. If you got a gift use it and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t be what you want to be because you can if you believe in yourself. Always be ambitious, determined, and motivated to succeed no matter what you choose to do in life.

What Would You Change In The Music Industry If You Were A Top Music Executive?

I would change by just helping more new artists be seen and giving real artists the recognition they deserve because so much talent is out there but so many even the best of the best are overlooked.

How Do You Feel About Originality?

I believe as long as a person are authentic within themselves they will be happy and at peace plus being themselves is better than being a copy of someone else and leads to better creativity.

Is There Anything Else We Should Know About You Or That You Would Like to Add?

I am from Mississippi born in Pascagoula and raised in Moss Point on the Gulf Coast and moved to California this year to pursue my dreams and give my kids a better opportunity to succeed in life. I am a mother of two teenagers.
