Joshua James Lippert,
What Musical Genre Do You Feel Best Describes Your Music And How Would You Describe Your Sound?
Rap or Hip hop / West coast. The Description given by most listeners is Old School Nostalgic Rap. I would have to agree! If I’m rapping about then it’s something that has happend to me or something I’m going thru at the time. I love lyrical flow that you can understand… kind of SPM (South Park Mexican) esque.
How Did You Get Your Name? Is There A Story?
I was Born in 83 in Barstow California, when I was still very young, My parents relocated to El Paso, TX.
Ironically I grew up on Paradise Ln which wasn’t nothing close to paradise. I had a rough childhood there. In 1996 we Moved again about 380 miles North to a small town named Los Lunas , New Mexico about 15 mins south of Albuquerque. I was 11 Years old at that time and I had decided Nobody Knew me here this is basically a fresh start so I didn’t wanna be that sad destroyed kid Josh, So on my first day of school I found a gang and asked if I could get jumped in. That day after school I was ranked in and they Named me Kilo because I was white, as most of them were Hispanic / black and really it wasn’t the norm to see a little white boy in the ranks. Hence “Kilo” was born.
What Are or Have Been Your Musical Influences?
There are so many that I love this is always a tough question for me. But, Easy – E for sure, West Side Connection, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Do or Die, Mack 10, Brotha Lynch, Immortal Technique, South Park Mexican, Tupac, Eminem, Three Six Mafia… Just to name a few. I have many more, but these were mostly the Artist’s and Groups I really listened to and studied.
What Are You Working On Now? Any Future Collaborations We Can Look Forward To?
Yes A lot of amazing Material still in my Ableton getting ready for the masses. As far as collaborations go, I have and continue to work with Artist’s in my Local Area here in Albuquerque, NM.
If your about about makin
g fire tracks then I’m down to collab! I work with a lot Kids and teach them the basics of songwriting and help them make music as a way to keep them from going down the troubled path I walked.
What Is Your Ultimate Goal In The Music Industry? What Is Your Plan Of Action?
I wanna make Good Music that others can relate to and hopefully get their heads in a place that helps them mitigate the struggles of life as music got me through some pretty rough times, I just wanna return the favor and hopefully connect with someone else that can use my music as a distraction from the day to day grind. I want to Keep the Old school Authentic feel of Nostalgic 90s era Rap / Hip Hop Alive, there truly is a lot of garbage out there and I don’t say that lightly.
I am probably my biggest Critic and if I even think its not slightly good I just wont put it out there. This genre was Handed down to us by the greats of Rap like Tupac, Dr. Dre, Eazy E.. My plan as it were is to get noticed on a national level and if the cards are right I want to get signed by a Major or even An Indie Label. I’m Not getting any younger and I have mouths to feed! I’m not trying to make a million, Just pay me what im worth!
What Is Your Favorite Track To Perform Live and Why?
Its been a while but I love to perform “Like a Zombie” its one of my favorite songs over the years and most people seem to dig it.
What Has Been The Biggest Challenge In Your Career Thus Far?
Family, Personal Life & Being Father to 5 Amazing Kids. My music has always had to take a back seat cause I had to provide for my familyIts still hard to this day. But they are all pretty much teenagers now so right now I have the time , Motivation and gusto to make the final push and hopefully get picked up by someone.
What’s Your Typical Songwriting Process?
Typically is random… Not always but typically. I try not to force a track its always best to just write when your in the mood I would say. Its a a difficult question to answer when your so meticulous and critical of what your ultimately making like I am.
How Has Social Media Influenced Your Career As An Artist?
Well the ability to reach mass amounts of people is the end all for me… I remeber singing into America Online on a 56k modem.
What Are Some Tracks and Artists Currently On Your Playlist?
Chris Webby … Joyner Lucas … Skrillex and a lot of edm as im a big fan of edm and dub step
What Did You Do Before You Started Making Music?
This question could lead me in to a long diatribe so I’ll just say I had a crazy youth and bouncing back from the gang life and avoiding the Box this will be my 22nd year Making music so yeah before music I was just wild in out.
Any Advice For Young People (Men or Women) That Want To Succeed In The Music World?
Absolutely, Never give up on your music, People can be pretty brutal when it comes to music and letting you know about how they feel about your music. Take Critisim Constructively in other words don’t take it to heart. There’s haterz everywhere and your gonna get Critiqued it just comes with the territory. Everyone starts somewhere! Also if you want to pursue your dream making music then dont put it on the back burners like I did. Tell everyone around you thats what your gonna do and just worry about yourself and stay positive.
What Would You Change In The Music Industry If You Were A Top Music Executive?
Elimate any Pay to play events or deals… I payed to play for years for shows … Thousands for beats … It’s sad but its so inundated with vultures selling Artists a pipe dream only you gotta foot the bill. Artists should get paid for their work effort and talents they shouldnt have to pay to get on a stage behind a microphone.
How Do You Feel About Originality?
I feel 00 it’s a necessity otherwise your just copy someone else’s style.
Is There Anything Else We Should Know About You Or That You Would Like to Add?
Positive thoughts bring positive outcome
