We are North American Pandas. A rock band of young folks from Long Island, New York. Leader, James “X” Erxleben (20) is the lead vocalist, lead guitarist, songwriter and founder of the band. Since the band’s inception, they have played many events across Long Island and New York State. North American Pandas has worked with organizations such as C.A.S.A. (The Coalition Against Substance Abuse), Cycling 4 Change (An organization that seeks to end child slavery and stop human trafficking), as well as Kids Rock For Kids (An organization that uses music-based fundraising events to help children in need all over the world). James is also a guitarist for the up and coming youth powerhouse group, Audio Siren. Some notable places James has performed throughout his career include but are not limited to: The Space (in Westbury), The City Winery (NYC), The Cutting Room (NYC), & The Bitter End (NYC). James has also committed to a dedicated career in radio broadcasting since 2021 at Nassau Community College’s radio station, the Award-Winning 90.3 WHPC!

How Did You Get Your Name? Is There A Story?
Bands 1st name was Amanda’s Pandas in honor of my Cousin who passed away when is was 8.we would always pretend play that we were in a rock band.Other cousins joined the real music band that became Papas’ Pandas to the now North American Pandas.N.A.P. James X. Erxleben is the main member and co-members & guesses have been involved in shows & gigs raising money for charity.

I currently am a DJ on Award winning college radio station WHPC 90.3 fm in Long Island,NY.I hold a certificate in Studio recording Engineering.I’m also a certified Lifeguard.Currently studying to become an X-ray tech.Music is my passion & I want to & will continue to write,record myself while helping others
What Is Your Favorite Track To Perform Live and Why?
I love my song “Let me lead the way”.Written when I was younger facing the unknown.No sure of what would come next.I made an choice to say to other kids confused to follow me,I’ll be a good example to lead on the right course.I love performing Foo Fighters “ Everlong” acoustically.
What Has Been The Biggest Challenge In Your Career Thus Far?
Changing of members in the band.Trying to find the right mix of bandmates.Getting gigs that pay.Being young and learning things the hard way while learning the biz .
What’s Your Typical Songwriting Process?
I write lyrics on scrap paper & try to match them to guitar cords I have in my head.The songs developed in many different forms.growing as I grow.Changing as I try to make the song better.Its almost like having a baby and raising it into a fine young person.
How Has Social Media Influenced Your Career As An Artist?
Facebook & instagram have been our many sources in gaining followers & getting our music out there.Its been a great way to make many new connections.

I still listen to XXX & Juice World.I alway listen to Beatles stuff & video game music sound tracks.Gin Blossoms,Smithereens and Kurt Cobin.
What Did You Do Before You Started Making Music?
I’ve been playing guitar since I was 5.Played violin,American folk songs.Grew out of playing sports ,got into skateboarding & video gaming.
Any Advice For Young People (Men or Women) That Want To Succeed In The Music World?
Make friends in the industry.Enjoy what your doing.Learn from others.Dont be afraid to ask for help from others.
What Would You Change In The Music Industry If You Were A Top Music Executive?
I love music videos and vinyl records.I know it’s a thing of the past but having a physical copy of a song or album was always great.reading lyrics,liner notes & photos
How Do You Feel About Originality?
It’s hard to be original because everyone wants to hear cover bands.We have many influences from rock,blues,country,pop,rap ,jazz & showtunes.we want to be cutting edge but not just a fad or gimmick
Is There Anything Else We Should Know About You Or That You Would Like to Add?
The world right now is a crazy place.Help others & reach out to others if you need help.Mental health is also key to happiness.Dont be afraid to talk to others or seek professional help if you feel depressed.Say away from drugs & negative people.Be kind to others & help make this world a better place.Love,laugh & smile.
